Peter Levy takes in huge Wind Peak vessel as sheer scale delights the Look North neighbour

The Energy Estuary’s role in the delivery of the latest mega wind farm off the UK coast has been given top billing by the BBC, supported by Humber Marine and Renewables.
Look North’s Peter Levy, reporter Phillip Norton and cameraman Joe Bilton were given exclusive access to Wind Peak – the huge jack-up vessel that has been working between Green Port Hull and RWE’s Sofia project for the past year.
Ahead of her final voyage as part of the wind farm’s construction, the regional news anchor went aboard what is the largest vessel of its type. He brought the sheer scale of it into the homes of hundreds of thousands of viewers, providing a glimpse at what is involved in the incredible engineering feats the Humber has put itself at the heart of.
Working with the vessel-operating Cadeler team, wind farm owner RWE and turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa, the BBC and Humber Marine & Renewables secured the opportunity in a timely manner, to help further the understanding of an industry hidden to many, while keeping the schedule ship-shape. Wind Peak takes Hull-manufactured blades, as well as imported towers and nacelles out to the site, at its furthest nearly 200km off the North East coast.

The five-minute feature aired on Friday, ahead of the sailing this weekend gone – providing an excellent warm-up for Humber Business Week – when organisations of all sizes put their best feet forward.
“Everything about this is enormous,” Peter said of the vessel that “has been a landmark for us for over a year” and a “much-loved sight,” during the piece.
He learned how the legs that descend from the hull to stand on the seabed made the vessel stable, and level enough, for a pool table to be a feature of the crew’s downtime, while hearing how when in port they’ve enjoyed roaring Hull City to promotion, and a few even managed to take in last summer’s Coldplay concert – from the stadium not the ship!
Peter’s literal ‘sea legs’ adventure followed a BBC Radio Humberside feature early on in the project, while’s Phillip’s return to the sector followed his emotional presentation of the Special Recognition Award at the 2025 Humber Renewables Awards.
