AR7 is welcome news for offshore wind in the Humber

Europe’s biggest ever offshore wind auction has brought further opportunity to the region.
In a record 8.4GW allocation, RWE has secured 6.9GW, including its Dogger Bank South projects, DBS East and DBS West.
Together they represent 3GW of the total awarded by the government, with significant job creation anticipated.
Humber Marine & Renewables chair, Andrew Oliver, said: “We are delighted to see the result of Allocation Round Seven, furthering the offshore wind capacity in the UK.
“RWE has been successful with its two Dogger Bank South projects, bringing a further 3GW of clean energy to the near North Sea.
“The developer has been active in Grimsby for some time now, with Humber Gateway, Triton Knoll and the under-construction Sofia wind farms all operated and maintained from the port, with vital components for the latter manufactured and assembled in Hull.

“We are actively engaged in supporting the ongoing expansion of the cluster as the company works towards its financial investment decision on these projects this summer, with the RWE also successful with significant arrays proposed off Norfolk and Wales, together totalling 6.9GW.
“With commissioning anticipated in 2031 and 2032, DBS East and West provide a strong pipeline of activity for the very many regional businesses and inward investors who have entered the offshore wind supply chain over the past two decades, many of whom we are delighted to represent. We look forward to continuing our excellent relationship with RWE in the coming months and years.”
