Embracing the elements in Scandinavia for wind turbines
Abnormal Load Services (ALS) together with Norsea, which is part of the Wilhelmsen Group, have recently invested in the onshore and offshore renewables sector by launching a new logistics company Elevon whose sole focus is to support the wind industry. The Elevon renewables team have overcome wintery conditions for renewables as they are busy on site working on 2 projects involving the movement of more wind turbine components in Scandinavia this year.
For the first project weather conditions when loading were challenging at some points, including snow and temperatures down to – 22 degrees.
The day started with frozen equipment, vehicles and lashing chains. From lifting the 1st blade to the last one the loading operation took about 8 hours. Once the operation was complete, the vessel sailed to Denmark.
Snow and ice did not stop the renewables team on site in Scandinavia working on a second project.
This project involved unloading wind turbine components from a vessel and transferring them to trailers before arranging onward transportation to a storage facility.
Dimensions of the cargo were:
73.74 metres long, 4.20 metres wide, 3.27 metres high and 23 Tons.
The project was completed on schedule.
Working under Northern Lights
The ALS/ Elevon team continue to work at various ports in Scandinavia overseeing wind equipment movements and, were delighted to experience seeing the Northern Lights. Pictured above.
